Breaking: Former President General Tadesse Worede, Former TDF Intelligence Chief Tewolde Embeb, and Esayas Tadesse Surrounded by Security Forces in Tigray

At around 1:00 a.m. local time in Tigray on Thursday, UMD Media learned that security forces had surrounded Colonel Tewolde Embeb, former head of TDF Military Intelligence; General Tadesse Worede, former president of the Tigray Interim Regional Administration and former head of the TDF; and Esayas Tadesse, a former member of the TPLF Central Committee.

UMD Media has independently confirmed that the Tewolde Embeb is currently surrounded at his residence in Mekelle an operation that reportedly involved approximately 300 police officers. According to information reaching UMD Media, he has refused to surrender and was quoted as saying:

“You will take out my dead body, not me alive.”

He is reportedly holding his position with a Kalashnikov.

UMD Media has now confirmed that General Tadesse Worede is surrounded by security forces at his residence. According to family members who spoke to UMD Media, security forces are attempting to break into the house. The family is appealing to anyone with the power to intervene to “stop this madness.”

It remains unclear whether Esayas Tadesse is being surrounded at his home or at another location.
